I have a friend who used a guy from borden and goddard in Oshawa. I don’t remember the guys name but he took her for everything she had and gave her nothing in the end.
What a rip off!
I’m also looking for a good trustworthy divorce lawyer in Durham Region. I’ve asked around but everyone has horror stories.
Is it possible to find review’s of family lawyers in Oshawa or Pickering?
I understand they aren’t all the same but how can you know this early on?
I would just use the FLIC for information and file / respond yourself. I spent 10k on a lawyer and in the end it doesnt make much difference. This is what the courts will order –
– splitting of your assets 50/50,
– paying spousal support (1 year for each year you are married, larger earners income minus less earners income)
– Child support – Max from table. (assuming you dont get custody)
– Split cost for one full degree of post secondary education (per child)
– Visitation – Weekends, vacation in the summer, march break, xmas.
Best to just draw up a fair separation agreement from the beginning and get her lawyer to read it. If iits fair any good lawyer will advise her to to take it.
And most important of all. Keep emotion out of it. Its so easy to get caught up in it all. and in the end it will cost your pocket book.
Looking into mediation is another option. Many mediators will have a good relationship with a few good lawyers. You can work out your agreement by yourself or with the help of a mediator and get referred to supportive local lawyers. Save time, money and stress!
